Thickness is everything
This is the number one thing people get wrong. A thick, padded cover ruins the feel of a Tesla wheel and can make it harder to read the road through your hands. You want an ultra-thin cover, ideally under two millimeters, that adds grip and protection without bulking up the rim. The whole point is that it should feel like a nicer version of the original wheel, not a different wheel entirely.
Material matters for grip and wear
Nappa leather is the sweet spot. It is soft, it grips well in any weather, and it ages gracefully instead of cracking or peeling. Cheaper covers use stiff synthetic materials that feel slick when your hands are warm and get hard in the cold. A breathable Nappa cover with a non-slip backing stays comfortable year round.
Fit: round wheel only
Both the Model 3 and Model Y use a round wheel, and a cover made for one generally fits the other. The thing to watch for is the yoke. If you have a yoke-style wheel, a standard round cover will not fit. Almost all Model 3 and Y cars have the round wheel, including the Highland and Juniper refreshes, but always confirm before buying.
